Course Description

The first discipline related internship provides students with meaningful work experience in a chosen career field. The course is designed to allow students to learn on the job as part of their educational program of study.     (3 credits, 180 contact hours on the job during the term with additional work/reporting required off the job site.

Course Topics

1. Job search to include resume and cover letter preparation, contacts with employer(s), interviews and contact agree development.

2. Discipline related work experience (180 hours minimum).

3. Reporting and evaluation (15 hours minimum)

Performance Standards Addressed

1. Follow oral and written instructions

2. Compose reports, documentation and other appropriate material.

3. Communicate orally with personnel of various backgrounds and technical skills

4. Demonstrate appropriate work habits

5. Demonstrate self-motivation and responsibility to complete an assigned task(s).

6. Demonstrate the ability to determine the proper priority for work.

7. Demonstrate appropriate attire and grooming for a business office.

8. Choose appropriate actions in situations requiring application of business ethics.

9. Choose appropriate action in situations requiring effective time management.

10. Other performance standards will be assigned by the program manager and/or internship supervisor(s) as determined by discipline and specific job/task assignments.

Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in any form. Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to, plagiarism and cheating on exams. A student who helps another cheat is considered equally guilty and will be subject to appropriate discipline.

Students not completing the class and not officially dropping or withdrawing from the class will receive an F for the course.
