There are 18 sections of the Skillbuilding program and lots of lessons:

1.    Course Entry and Exit [Section 1 - Skill Evaluation Timing ]

2.      Keyboard Practice Sections [Sections 2 – 16]

3.      Progress Check Timings [Section 17]

4.      Pacing Practice [Section 18]

a.      Placement Timing

b.      Pacings [20 words a minute through 100 words a minute]

Take a few minutes to go through your textbook before beginning your practices. You are only required to complete the lessons listed on the Assignment Sheet. You must install your software to the hard drive in your computer. The lessons listed on your Assignment Sheet are abbreviated; check the table of contents in your textbook for the complete title name of your lesson. For example: Ind Fing means Individual Finger practices, Number 97 represents the Number Practice, Lesson 97 under Number Practice.

Upon the software completion, your first lesson is to establish a Course Entry Timing.  You may retake the course entry timing at least twice before proceeding to the practice lessons.  After you have completed the Course Entry Timing, your next lesson is the Alphabet Diagnostic Timing which is used to determine which letters you mistyped most often and to help you select practice lessons based on the results of the timing. You’ll notice a question [?] mark next to the Alphabet lesson on your Assignment Sheet.  The software will assign the alphabets that you will need to practice. After the computer has determined your problem area, go to the lesson in your textbook for that particular alphabet. If you do not have any problem areas go on the next lesson listed on your Assignment Sheet.

Options or Option Act [activities] represent your choice of additional practice sessions which include: Keyboard practice lessons and Pace practice lessons. If you need additional practice on problem areas this is the section to use for that practice!

After a series of practice lessons, you will complete and submit only the Progress Checks. There are a total of 18 Progress Checks which are found within the weekly lessons. The objective of the Progress Check Timing is to measure overall skill development at regular intervals throughout the course. Submit only the Progress Checks throughout the course, the practice sessions are for your record. Refer back to the icon under Course Content for instructions on how to prepare and submit your progress report.
