EPI 0003 – TECHNOLOGY
Dear Student:
Welcome! Thank you for enrolling in EPI 0003. This module prepares the participant to set up a classroom, establish classroom policies and procedures, create objective-based lesson plans, utilize various styles on presentations, employ varied teaching strategies, develop and administer various forms of assessment, integrate Sunshine State Standards into classroom lessons develop, establish, and maintain cooperative relations with parents, and research professional literature to seek best practices and to hone the craft of effective instruction. Please be sure to carefully “read” your syllabus for this course.
Before class begins, you will need to obtain an Internet Service Provider (ISP) with the ability to access the World Wide Web as well as be able to send and receive e-mail. As a member of FCCJ you are entitled to receive a FCCJ Dial-up service and e-mail account. You may use this service as your provider. The address for this service is: http://www.fccj.edu/current/stucomputing/index.html.
Because BlackBoard is actually a computer program, you will need to allow time to get familiar with the BlackBoard environment. This is an important process, so please do not skip over the material. You will be expected to know where everything is and how each of the features work. Your first task is to complete the Student Information sheet. BlackBoard’s Home page is “The Announcement Page,”. This page is one of the most important documents in the course materials and you should print it and keep nearby for quick reference. You can access each button on the BlackBoard site by clicking on the icon with your mouse. You should Practice going to each of the icons and then returning to the Home page. During the term you will be expected to use the BlackBoard features on a regular basis. If you need to contact me you will usually get faster results by calling me at 781-8661 (If I am not at home it will give you my cell No.) When you log on to BlackBoard please check for new announcements. If you have any questions about the class, you should send a E-mail to me immediately or call. I will try to respond to your e-mail with 48 hours. Please do not wait until an assignment is due to ask questions or wait several weeks into the term to tell me you do not know where to find information about what you are expected to do in a given period. Please keep in mind that if several weeks past and I haven’t heard from you via e-mail or phone, you are subject to receiving an “FN” grade for failure-nonattendance. I will not modify this grade once it has been submitted, so just to reiterate, if you are having problems/situations, contact me immediately!
I am looking forward to working with each of you this term. Professor Joe Basso
Do the Student information Page first before you do anything else. Failure to do this page within the first two weeks of the course might get you dropped from the course as a “NO SHOW”. To get started You need to click on 1. Course Documents 2. Student Information Sheet 3. Print the sheet 4. Answer the Questions and e-mail me the results REMEMBER: When you sign on to BlackBoard always look for new announcements on the announcement page.

There will be several group activities that will be included in your grade. Due to the structure of the class, it is impossible to replicate the cooperative and group activities. Missing them may affect your grade negatively. Likewise, tardiness is disruptive to our class. Please be on time and prepared for each class.
Due dates/make-up policy Activities completed during class cannot be made up. If you miss more than one class, it may be necessary for you to take an “incomplete” grade and re-take the course the next time it is offered. All late assignments are subject to a 20% deduction of the possible points. Assignments submitted after the late assignment cutoff will not be accepted. Please speak to your instructor as soon as possible if you expect to have difficulty with any of the course due dates. Portfolio—Jump DriveStudents in the EPI program will develop an electronic portfolio, which will highlight the different projects that they created. Along with the electronic portfolio, students are highly encouraged to produce a paper version of their portfolio for upcoming interviews as well as for documentation purposes. Listed below are the steps that students will need to follow in order to develop their portfolio. 1. Purchase and bring to class a jump drive 2. Create a folder for each FEAP (Florida Educator Accomplished Practice) on the jump drive 3. Create a folder for each Duval County TIP (Teacher Induction Program) on the jump drive 4. Insert the class assignment in each folder that is designated on each EPI syllabus with a **. These assignments are aligned with FEAPs and TIP and numbered for entry. 5. Print out all final versions of the assignments and place in a binder under each FEAP or TIP heading. 6. You will want to follow the same process for each TIP. All paper portfolios will be assessed at the final exit interview from the EPI Program.
